Applying his expertise in the field of clinical psychology, Matthew Lindgren has provided assistance to a number of people. Initially, Matthew Lindgren began his career as a Technical Writer and Demo Engineer with Ariba, Inc., a company that provides business commerce solutions to large organizations. After working at the company for nearly five years, Matthew Lindgren pursued his Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at the New College of California. Mr. Lindgren’s training included a position at the New College of California Community Counseling Center, where he provided psychodynamic play therapy to low-income adults and children in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and Latino communities of San Francisco, California.

After graduating with his advanced degree, Matthew Lindgren went to Nicaragua to perform psychotherapy work with street children at Las Tias, a nonprofit organization. Soon afterward, Mr. Lindgren became a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) Intern at Golden Gate Counseling, where he provided anger management therapy for court-mandated clients with behavioral issues.

Matthew Lindgren then became an Intern at Anthropos Counseling Center. After completing his required hours as an intern, Mr. Lindgren became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at ABC Family Solutions, where he focused on helping patients with post-traumatic stress disorder and received training from Anne Mulville in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), an approach that characterizes his primary theoretical approach. During this period, Matthew Lindgren also had a number of interactions with Child Protective Services, the family court system, adoption agencies, and foster care. Recently, he served as a Trauma and EMDR Specialist at Impulse Treatment Center and as a Grant and Business Development Manager at Centro Latino de San Francisco.

Today, he serves as a clinician and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Blackbird Family Therapy, Inc., where he works with trauma survivors, fellow mental health professionals, and many couples. In his work with fellow professionals, Matthew Lindgren helps social workers, therapists, and others to avoid and deal with burnout through his workshops on vicarious trauma. In his work with couples, he draws heavily from systems theory. In this approach, each person is seen as an individual and in a social context. His work with couples is influenced by the work of Ellyn Bader, Peter Pearson, Susan Johnson, and John Gottman. Mr. Lindgren has also worked as a public speaker and trainer. In this capacity, he has served as a guest lecturer on the subject of trauma in a class on developmental psychopathology at the University of California, Berkeley.
